About Yi Tang

A theatre director and performer, she merges the precision and depth of Eastern performance traditions with the innovation of contemporary Western experimental forms. Holding a BA in Chinese Opera Directing from the Shanghai Theatre Academy and an MA in Performance Design from Central Saint Martins, Yi brings a unique cross-cultural perspective to the stage. Her work spans international collaborations and boundary-pushing projects, including an award-winning micro-short series recognised at the 14th Beijing International Film Festival. Her directing and performance works have been presented at numerous venues and international festivals, including the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and the Camden Fringe.

An international theatre and film director, actor, and cross-cultural arts practitioner, as well as Co-Founder and Artistic Director of Central Drama Lab and Founder of Golocal Events.

Since 2019, he has participated in more than 60 global arts projects, with work spanning China, the United Kingdom, Italy, France, and beyond. His practice combines avant-garde artistic expression, strategic commercial communication, and extensive experience in international production.

His creative methodology integrates training in Chinese opera directing, physical theatre, contemporary experimental performance, and transmedia storytelling. He specialises in transforming the physicality, rhythm, and symbolic systems of Eastern performance traditions into contemporary forms of expression for international audiences.

With strong communication impact and substantial experience in brand collaboration, he has participated in or collaborated on more than 100 global brand projects, including UNIQLO, OPPO, Sprite, CeraVe, and Hu Shang A Yi. He also starred in the micro-drama London International Student Apartment, which has accumulated approximately 300 million views and received the “Annual Special Recognition Micro-Drama” honour at the Beijing International Film Festival.
